How we work
Embedded, not at arm's length
No behind-the-glass handoff. We sit in your stand-ups, your code reviews, and your incident channels, at whatever depth the engagement needs.
Engagement shapes
Three ways we plug in
Embedded augmentation
We slot two to six senior engineers into your existing team. Your processes, your tools, your tickets — we're a force multiplier, not a parallel track.
Typical shape
3–18 months · T&M with rate card · scope set quarterly
End-to-end delivery
We own the build from discovery to launch. Cross-functional team — engineering, design, PM — accountable for the outcome, not the hours.
Typical shape
3–12 months · fixed scope & price · shared incentives
Architecture & advisory
A CTO or principal engineer goes deep with your team for weeks, not days. Review, recommend, and stay close enough to live with the decisions.
Typical shape
2–8 weeks · retainer or fixed engagement · 1–2 people
Process
Five steps. No surprises in week six
01 · WEEK 0
Discover
Stakeholder interviews, a working session with whoever owns the problem, and a technical audit of the systems we'll touch. Output: a shared definition of done.
Artefacts · interview notes · audit report · success-criteria doc
02 · WEEKS 1–2
Design
Architecture, UX flows, and a thin prototype — co-designed with your team. We deliberately ship one risky thing first to validate the riskiest assumption.
Artefacts · architecture doc · flows · spike code · risk register
03 · WEEKS 3–9
Build
Two-week sprints, demoable increments at the end of each. Embedded delivery means your engineering leads see the code as it's written, not at handover.
Artefacts · sprint demos · staging deploys · running CI · weekly written update
04 · LAUNCH WEEK
Launch
Migration plan, performance baselines, runbooks, and a 24/7 incident rota for the first two weeks post-launch. We don't disappear at the cutover.
Artefacts · runbook · migration playbook · KPI dashboard · on-call rota
05 · ONGOING
Scale
Optional retainer for feature velocity, reliability tuning, and observability work. Or full handover to your team with whatever knowledge-transfer support you need.
Artefacts · code, docs, runbooks transferred · KT sessions · retainer plan
Communication
No status-update theatre
Daily
Stand-ups
15 minutes, your timezone, your tooling. We join yours rather than duplicating into Slack.
Weekly
Written update
A short Loom or doc — what shipped, what's blocked, what we're worried about. Shareable upward.
Bi-weekly
Sprint demo
Demoable increment in staging. No "for-show" demos — we walk through the actual product.
Monthly
Steering review
Sponsor-level check-in. We bring the trade-offs, you make the calls.
Boundaries
What we won't take on
Body-shop staffing
If the engagement is purely "send four engineers, manage them ourselves" with no architectural ownership, it's not a fit. We're a partner, not a labour pool.
Vendor lock-in by design
Every engagement ends with your team able to operate what we built. Code, docs, runbooks transferred. If you want to take it in-house, that's the goal.
Recommend it and ghost
If we won't put a piece of tech on our own on-call rotation, we won't recommend it for yours. Architecture choices come with operational accountability.
"Yes, that's possible"
When something's a bad idea, we say so on the first call — not after the SOW is signed. Direct and opinionated is one of our values, not a marketing line.
