The challenge

The largest news organizations in Southeastern Europe had built their digital platforms ad-hoc over the years - separate CMS, web, and mobile systems maintained by separate teams, with no unified architecture. Adding a new portal required weeks of manual work; there was no guaranteed availability during peak traffic, and editorial workflows were fragmented across disconnected tools.

The approach

Novium rebuilt the platform around a single declarative architecture - a custom CMS as the control plane, a Vue.js SSR frontend with edge caching, and React Native for iOS and Android from one shared codebase. Migration was done portal by portal, with parallel output validation for each client before full cutover.

The solution

A unified platform definition replaces ad-hoc configurations - encode profiles, packaging, CDN distribution, and monitoring all driven from a single source of truth per portal. New portals provision in under 10 minutes. A WebSocket layer handles real-time publishing automatically, with no manual intervention required in the newsroom.

Results

14+ portals running on the same infrastructure at the same headcount, reaching millions of readers per month. Time-to-live for a new portal dropped from weeks of manual effort to under 10 minutes. Zero customer-visible incidents since the last platform redesign - with 24/7 real-time publishing sustained across all clients simultaneously.
